Giusto ieri si festeggiava il 50esimo anniversario del primo volo umano nello spazio. Ovviamente stiamo parlando del russo Yuri Gagarin, che il 12 aprile 1951 ha effettuato il primo volo spaziale umano nella storia dell'umanità. Sono riuscito in 40 giorni a divorare tutti e 68 gli episodi trasmessi fino ad ora. E' stata un'impresa, ma ne è valsa la pena. /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Da anni, ormai, usavo di tanto in tanto la versione demo. Sebbene di fatto si tratti della versione completa che, però, può essere utilizzata per 10 minuti al massimo, e che lo scenario è limitato ad una piccola zona attorno ad un aeroporto (la 9, per esempio, ha lo scenario dell'area di Innsbruck), mi sono stancato di non poter eseguire un volo dall'inizio alla fine. Così la settimana scorsa, navigando sul sito di Amazon, mi sono deciso di prendere X-Plane 9. I motivi dietro questa ponderatissima scelta, sono molti: la curiosità, appunto, di provarlo fino in fondo, il fatto che la comunità di utilizzatori è in costante aumento, il fatto che sembra che Flight Simulator X sarà forse l'ultima versione (o penultima) sviluppata da Microsoft e per finire, la possibilità di avere un VERO simulatore di volo, che utilizzi la modellazione delle leggi fisiche per far volare gli aerei. È arrivato martedì, e l'ho subito installato. Diciamo che installare 6 DVD tra simulatore e scenario globale, porta via un po' di tempo. Nulla di trascendentale, ma la bramosia di usarlo subito gioca brutti scherzi. Comunque non ho ancora eseguito un volo completo, ma ho svolazzato nei cieli del nord Italia per un po' testando le varie impostazioni e provando i vari aerei forniti di default. L'auto è carica (scarponi, guanti, berretto, l'essenziale c'è). E' ancora tanto buio, ma per fortuna non piove. Tangenziale, autostrada, passante. Ecco l'alba, ormai sono già a Belluno. Le strade sono pulite, la neve è solo ai bordi. Longarone, Forno di Zoldo, Zoldo Alto. Prima brutta sorpresa. In una leggera salita con la strada appena sporca di neve sciolta, l'auto slitta. Ma che razza di gomme hanno montato? Non c'è altro da fare che montare le catene. Operazione all'apparenza facilissima, ma che per il nervoso e per la poca esperienza si proluna per più di 10 minuti. Catene montate alla meno peggio. Sosta per il nolleggio degli sci. Poi arrivo a Palafavera. Che bello, il parcheggio è praticamente vuoto. Sono il primo (sono le 8:40). Ma che strano, la biglietteria è chiusa e gli impianti fermi, e non c'è nessuno in giro. Allora vado al bar a fare colazione e a chiedere informazioni. Seconda brutta sorpresa: impianti chiusi per troppa neve e pericolo valanghe. Gli unici impianti aperti sono quelli di Pecol.&lt;br /&gt;Allora dietrofront e giù a Pecol di corsa. Parcheggio, scarponi, scii, racchette. Finalmente sulla cabinovia. E via per l'inizio della mia personale stagione sciistica.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Il tempo è così così. La biga ci dice che possiamo partire, vento da 360 4 nodi.Decolliamo in coppia e ci portiamo subito a 2.000 ft, diretti verso Como. Io faccio un po' fatica a seguire Luca, che prende subito qualche km di vantaggio. Ma poi mi aspetta e sopra Como lo raggiungo. Seguiamo il lago, verso Nord e ci portiamo a 3.000 ft. Il tempo si mantiene abbastanza buono, con le nuvole sempre sopra di noi. A Colico, viriamo a destra per 090° e seguiamo la Valtellina sempre volando in formazione "larga". Decidiamo di fare il passo dell'Aprica e di seguire la Val Camonica, così ci portiamo a 6.000 ft. Però appena passato l'aeroporto di Sondrio, il tempo inizia a peggiorare. La visibilità precipita a poche miglia, le nuvole diventano sempre più basse. Decidiamo di salire ancora per evitare brutte sorprese, e così ci portiamo a circa 8.000 ft. Cerchiamo comunque di proseguire il nostro volo, anche se il buon senso c'imporrebbe di fare un'immediato dietrofront e di tornare dove il tempo è migliore. Le nuvole con i sassi non ci piacciono. Ma noi siamo testardi, e facendo molta attenzione alle montagne, un po' a naso, un po' seguendo scrupolosamente la cartina VFR, cerchiamo di dirigerci verso il Lago d'Iseo. Procediamo un po' a zig-zag, poiché la visibilità non ci permette di capire bene dove siamo rispetto alla valle. Ma ecco, poco prima di attraversare il Lago d'Iseo, la visibilità migliora sensibilmente e ci permette di continuare il nostro volo più tranquillamente. Scendiamo a 2.000 ft e, con prua 180°, cerchiamo l'autostrada A4 che seguiremo poi verso Est. La troviamo e la seguiamo, passando vicini a Ghedi e a Montichiari. Il tempo è migliore, da queste parti. Già subito passati Brescia, scorgiamo il Lago di Garda. Ormai siamo quasi arrivati. Luca segue il VOR di Villafranca. Arrivati a Peschiera, iniziamo a vedere bene la città di Verona, e, avvicinandoci, cerchiamo e troviamo l'aeroporto di Boscomantico. Ci allineiamo per la pista 08 e atterriamo dolcemente in questo aeroporto "deserto" che si trova in un'ansa dell'Adige. Strano perché sono giorni in cui vengo attirato sempre di più da grandi autori fuori dal comune. L'ultimo in ordine cronologico... l'altro giorno è morto &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Rigoni_Stern"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Mario Rigoni Stern&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;. Ne conoscevo solo il nome. Ad ottobre dello scorso anno, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.marcopaolini.it/"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Marco Paolini&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt; ha portato in televisione un spettacolo tratto da "Il Sergente nella neve". Come sempre, uno spettacolo di altissimo livello. E così ho scoperto qualcosa di più di Mario Rigoni Stern. Abitava ad Asiago, a poche decine di chilomentri da dove mi trovo, anche se distante anni luce dall'ambiente in cui vivo. Forse per questo mi incuriosice moltissimo e voglio iniziare a leggere i suoi libri. Commentando la morte di Stern, Mauro Corona ha detto che gli è dispiaciuto di più di quando è morto suo padre. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauro_Corona"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Mauro Corona&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, un altro &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.dispersoneiboschi.it/"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;montanaro&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt; "strano". La sua vita sembra un romanzo. Mi ricordo ancora un suo intervento alle Invasioni Barbariche. Dove passa lascia il segno. Ecco perché voglio leggere i suoi libri. E poi c'è &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_K._Dick"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Philip K. Dick&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, famoso autore di fantascienza. Da quel poco che ho scoperto di lui, mi sembra all'altezza di un altro autore di fantascienza che ho letto &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimov"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Isaac Asimov&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;. Infine &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Bach"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Richard Bach&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, pilota e scrittore. Diversi anni fa mi è stato regalato un libro &lt;em&gt;Straniero alla terra&lt;/em&gt;. Un libro che devo aver divorato in pochi giorni, visto che ho vaghi ricordi della storia. Avevo poco più di 10 anni, ed eravamo nell'era degli &lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_computer"&gt;home computer&lt;/a&gt;. I miei genitori mi avevano regalato un fantastico &lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64"&gt;Commodore 64&lt;/a&gt; e con esso ho appreso i primi rudimenti di informatica. Però, il programma in assoluto che mi piaceva di più era il simulatore di volo &lt;a href="http://fshistory.simflight.com/fsh/fsii.htm"&gt;SubLOGIC Flight Simulator II&lt;/a&gt;. Memorizzato sulle classiche musicassette e caricato tramite il Commodore Datasette 1530, si impiegava parecchi minuti prima di poterlo caricare completamnete. Appena si avviava il programma, ci si trovava con il proprio Piper Archer sulla pista 36 dell'aeroporto &lt;a href="http://friendsofmeigs.org/"&gt;Merrill C. Meigs Field&lt;/a&gt; (IATA: CGX, ICAO: KCGX), lungo la costa del lago Michigan poco ad est della città di Chicago, su di un'isola artificiale (la Northerly Island) dove si trova anche "&lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_of_Progress"&gt;A Century of Progress International Exposition&lt;/a&gt;".&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/aastolfi/BloggerPictures/photo?authkey=prI6VmXLwlQ#5206185110445415314"&gt;&lt;img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/aastolfi/SEAVxj8G25I/AAAAAAAAANM/O3H_6Ohmm8A/s400/Capture_006.gif.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Ed è così che ho imparato cos'è un VOR, un NDB, un ILS e come funzionano. Cosa sono i flaps, gli alettoni, il timone di coda, l'elevatore. Come si intercettano le radiali. Come si corregge il vento. Gli aeroporti circa 80, alcuni dotati di ATIS e di piste con ILS. Tutto quello che serviva per poter passare parecchie ore alla settimana a volare (o almeno ad avere la sensazione di volare veramente).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Per ora mi fermo qui. style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Da alcuni anni, da quando il 20 settembre 1997 sono andato al concerto del Popmart Tour a Reggio Emilia, sono diventato un fan degli &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.u2.com/"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;U2&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;. Anche se prima già mi piacevano, da quell'esperienza ho iniziato ad interessarmi a &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/U2"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Bono &amp;amp; C.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt; in modo più assiduo. Il concerto che hanno proiettato, fa parte del Vertigo Tour, che ho visto a Milano il 19 luglio 2005. Avendo fatto l'esperienza del concerto live, vedere al cinema lo stesso spettacolo in 3D è un'esperienza unica. Ovviamente è un'esperienza diversa, ma per molti aspetti simile. Il 3D al cinema è un'esperienza realmente coinvolgente. Sembra effettivamente di essere all'interno dello stadio ad assistere ad una performance live. Quando Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton e Larry Mullen vengono inquadrati da vicino, sembra che stiano suonando/cantando a qualche metro dal proprio naso. Si viene proiettati direttamente all'interno dello stadio, insieme alle decine di migliaia di spettatori, ad assistere ad uno spettacolo di luci e colori impareggiabile.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;La &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.3alitydigital.com/"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;tecnologia digitale&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt; utilizzata è completamente diversa da quella "antica" degli occhialini di cartone con due lenti di colori diversi che avevo sperimentato tanti anni fa a Gardaland. Adesso si usano un paio di occhiali di plastica, forniti di due lenti a cristalli liquidi, che vengono oscurate alternativamente, per far vedere i fotogrammi alterni del film (che viene trasmesso alla ragguardevole velocità di 144 fps) per trasmettere la visione stereoscopica e quindi la sensazione di profondità della scena. Tuttavia questa nuova tecnologia digitale è ancora piuttosto giovane ed acerba, e soffre ancora di alcuni difetti. Per esempio, nelle scene inquadrate da molto vicino o da molto distante è presente una evidente distorsione. Le luci inquadrate direttamente sembrano irreali (forse perché le lenti a cristalli liquidi non sono in grado di oscurare completamente fonti luminose forti). Nelle inquadrature con soggetti molto vinicini si nota una certa sfocatura (o forse, più precisamente, un disallinemento stereoscopico dell'immagine che appare doppia). Ma nel complesso il giudizio è positivo. In futuro usciranno anche dei film in 3D. Si tratta di una macchina elettro-meccanica per cifrare e decifrare. Fu utilizzata in larga parte dai tedeschi durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Fu ideata da Arthur Scherbius, un ingegnere tedesco, basandosi sul &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_cifrante"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;disco cifrante&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt; di Leon Battista Alberti (che lo inventò nel 1467). Ne esistono diverse varianti, sia per uso commerciale, sia per uso militare (terrestre e navale). Molti sforzi sono stati compiuti dagli alleati (per primi i francesi, seguiti dai polacchi e dagli inglesi) per poterne capire il funzionamento e il modo di decifrare le comunicazioni. Sforzi sia di natura intellettuale, sia di natura militare per catturare importanti informazioni dalle navi e dai sottomarini tedeschi. Quello che mi affascina di più, oltre alla crittografia in quanto tale, sono gli sforzi compiuti da una parte e dall'altra per cercare di nascondere (o di scoprire) importanti messaggi, per guadaganere un certo vantaggio sull'avversario. Una sorta di partita a scacchi moderna, dove ognuno muove le proprie pedine per poter arrivare per primo alla meta. Dopo aver fatto lo scrutatore un una sezione, ieri sono stato "incastrato" per far parte dell'Ufficio Centrale per l'elezione del Consiglio Comunale. In pratica si tratta di una commissione che si occupa di fare il totale dei voti raccolti nel comune, di assegnare i vari seggi e di compilare svariate tabelle e verbali da spedire poi in Prefettura. Il lavoro è iniziato alle 9:00 e si è concluso alle 16:15. L'esperienza comunque è stata positiva; ho conosciuto un magistrato, e altre persone del mio comune di appartenenza. Inoltre ho capito quale regola si utilizza per l'assegnazione dei seggi a seconda delle preferenze espresse dagli elettori. Adesso mi piacerebbe iscrivermi nelle liste per fare il presidente di seggio. È abbastanza diffuso nel centro-nord Italia, con Rovigo, Milano e Roma dove se ne trovano più di mille, seguite da Torino, Rimini, Teramo e Frosinone dove ce ne sono ta i 100 e i 1000. Sempre su Wikipedia si trova anche mio nonno, Alessandro Astolfi, che faceva parte della rosa ufficiale dei giocatori del Padova negli anni 1931/1932, quando fu promosso dalla serie B alla serie A (nel terzo anno del campionato nazionale di serie A a girone unico).&lt;br /&gt;E qui, per il momento, finisce la mia ricerca. Ci sono ancora personaggio famosi, e addirittura una ditta che si chiama Astolfi, ma non è il caso di menzionare tutti qui. Ormai avevo perso ogni speranza. Ma, viste le numerose rinunce di questa volta, l'ufficio elettorale ha ripescato anche me dalla lista degli scrutatori di riserva. E così sono stato incaricato di fare lo scrutatore. L'impegno non è leggero, poiché si tratta di lavorare sabato dalle 16 in poi, per la firma delle schede da parte del presidente del seggio; domenica dalle 8 alle 22 per le votazioni, così come lunedi dalle 7 alle 15. Dopo si inizia il conteggio dei voti delle elezioni nazionali. E martedì dalle 14 in poi ci sarà la conta dei voti per le elezioni amministrative del comune. Finalmente mercoledì avrò diritto alla mia giornata di riposo! Sono curioso di fare questa nuova esperienza. Ma anche perché è stata la prima volta che partecipavo ad un matrimonio a Venezia. Gli invitati e lo sposo sono arrivati in traghetto da Mestre. Mentre la sposa è arrivata con una taxi motoscafo. Ebbene sì, dopo aver letto l'annuncio che lo staff di AVSIM stava cercando un Linux system administrator da inserire nel proprio Technology Team, ho colto l'opportunità al volo e ho scritto allo staff per offrirmi come volontario per questo ruolo. Ieri ho ricevuto una mail da Matt Johnson che mi dà il benvenuto nello staff di AVSIM. Dovrò aspettare ancora qualche giorno prima di diventare operativo. È inutile sottolineare che sono molto soddisfatto di aver ottenuto questo incarico.
